MERCHANT CHECKLIST

The Check must have been accepted, in person or by mail, by the victim, or a representative of the victim (salesperson, UPS driver, etc.) in the BIRMINGHAM DIVISION of Jefferson County, Alabama.

All Checks must be dated less than ONE year prior to obtaining a warrant.

The Check writer must be at least 18 years of age on or before the Check date. Any Checks written by a minor (under the age of 18) can be handled through the Jefferson County Family Court.

The Worthless Check Unit will NOT accept
    . Post-dated checks
    . Two-party checks
    . Hold Checks (any Check that you agreed to hold for any specific time
     before deposit)
    . Checks stamped Stop Payment
    . Checks in which a partial payment has been made
    . Checks which have been sent to a collection agency

Send the Notice to Maker form by CERTIFIED MAIL, RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED. (SEE additional instructions for ï¿½How to Obtain a Warrantï¿½).

Fill out the Worthless Check Information Sheet and submit it to the Special Services Division ONLINE or in PERSON. (SEE additional instructions for ï¿½How to Obtain a Warrantï¿½ and for forms to be brought to the Special Services Offices).
