HOW TO OBTAIN A WARRANT
|

|
1. Fill out the Notice to the Maker form to the check writer.
|
|
|
|
2. Mail this Notice by CERTIFIED MAIL, RETURN RECEIPT
REQUESTED (green signature card)
|
|
|
|
|
• To the person who SIGNED the check
|
|
• To the FULL and CORRECT address on the check
|
|
|
|
3. If a different address was provided to you in writing, send the Certified Notice
to the corrected address.
|
|
|
|
4. When processing a business check, the Certified Notice must be addressed
to the SIGNER of the check and mailed to the address on
the check.
|
|
|
|
5. The check writer must be given 10 full days from the date on the returned
signature card to pay the amount due. After the 10 days,
you may obtain a warrant from our office if payment is not made.
|
|
|
|
6. If the Certified letter is returned to you for any
reason, NO waiting period is required. DO NOT open the
letter. Leave the unsigned GREEN SIGNATURE CARD intact.
|
|
|
|
7. NO CERTIFIED LETTER is required for
|
|
|
|
• CLOSED ACCOUNT
|
|
• UNABLE TO LOCATE ACCOUNT
|
|
• NO ACCOUNT FOUND
|
|
|
|
8. After the 10-day waiting period, bring the following documents to the Worthless
Check Unit:
|
|
|
|
• Completely filled out Worthless Check Information Sheet which can be
submitted online or brought to our office
|
|
• Original check or legal copy from the bank
|
|
• Green signature card or letter (in its original unopened envelope)
|
|
• Copy of the Notice to the Maker Letter
|
|
• If you submitted your Worthless Check Information Sheet online, the
WCU will contact you when the warrant is ready to be signed.
Bring the above-listed documents with you to your appointment.
