March 16, 2017 - Jibrail Hutchinson Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison

Jibrail Hutchinson was sentenced to 40 years in prison today by Circuit Court Judge Laura Petro for the Reckless Manslaughter of 14 year old Miracle Stinson and for Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling.  The State argued to Judge Petro, as I did the jury, that this was a case of senseless violence.  Miracle had gotten into a fight with some girls he knew from school and the neighborhood and the defendant responded by shooting at his house seven times, one of the bullets striking Miracle and killing him.  It was as senseless a death as you can imagine.  The State submitted into evidence 5 prior felony convictions for the defendant, including one for a previous Discharging into an Occupied Dwelling.  Miracle’s sister Dominique Stinson and his grandmother Vickie Paulding both spoke at the sentencing hearing and talked to Judge Petro about how Miracle was a smart and caring young man.  The State is very pleased with the sentence and feels like justice was served.
